Traunkirchen was once one of the most important strategic points in the salt trade, today the small town impresses with its charm and its peninsula on which the town center is located. Surrounded by water, the 1000-year-old, former Jesuit monastery sits enthroned on it, the distinguishing feature of the small village. The host Wolfgang Gröller himself regularly guides interested people through the place and gives an insight into the history and development of his homeland.
The region around Traunkirchen and the Traunsee is characterized by its diversity. Due to the perfect location on the lake and the surrounding mountains, there is always something to experience, in every season. In winter, the nearby Feuerkogel invites you to go skiing and in the warmer months the area can be explored by motorcycle, bicycle or on foot. Traunkirchen is as diverse as the region itself and therefore not only a place to relax, but also to experience something. Water sports such as stand-up paddling, kayaking and diving are just as possible as relaxing excursions with a rented electric or sailing boat. Enthusiastic golfers are also spoiled for choice in the Salzkammergut and can choose between nine of the most beautiful golf courses in Austria.
Whether the sun is shining or it is snowing: Traunkirchen is the perfect starting point for excursions to Hallstatt, Bad Ischl, or the old town of Gmunden. With the “Traunkirchen Ort” train stop near the hotel, you can easily take the excursions without a car and switch to a relaxed journey by train.
