The ideal time to enjoy the tranquility of the Traunsee and to trudge through the snow with snowshoes. But even at this time of the year the Salzkammergut has something ready for all those who are looking for action and adventure ...
With the winter, peace returns to the Traunsee region. You can meet up comfortably for raclette bread, punch and biscuits at the Christmas market, stroll through snow-covered landscapes, or experience a sunny day of skiing on the mountain. There is a program for everyone, whether relaxed and calm or adventurous and action-packed.
Visit one of the many Advent markets, browse through the various stalls and enjoy a few fresh, hot chestnuts straight from the oven. Our recommendation: the well-known Schlösser Advent. It is located in the Schlosshotel Orth in Gmunden and is only 15 minutes by car from Traunkirchen. The castle is located on a small island in the middle of the lake and is only connected to the mainland by a long, bridge-like bridge. At the time of the Christmas market, the so-called “Schlösser Advent”, small illuminated nativity scenes float around the castle, which are beautifully reflected on the surface of the lake after dusk - definitely worth a visit!

The white winter landscapes invite you to spend a day in nature. Everyone gets their money's worth. Ski enthusiasts can spend a day on the nearby Feuerkogel. A ski area free from mass tourism and the hustle and bustle, suitable for all levels of difficulty and thus the perfect destination for the whole family. If you are looking for a bit of variety: ski areas such as Hinterstoder and Gosau are also only an hour's drive from Traunkirchen. Alternatively, there are also wonderful cross-country trails in the area, more precisely on the Postalm and in Mitterndorf.
Winter is not just something you can really enjoy on skis. In our hotel reception you can borrow snowshoes and trudge through the landscape. How about, for example, a hike to the Feuerkogel and then a hot soup at the Kranabethhütte? Our guests have the option of renting snowshoes and ski touring equipment at the Feuerkogel. In addition, guided tours and courses are offered. Please ask at our reception.
An experience for the whole family that we can warmly recommend is tobogganing on the Hochsteinalm. You walk upwards for around 45 minutes and then, after a little refreshment at the charming charming Alpin hut, toboggan down with a borrowed sledge. And best of all: the natural toboggan run is only 10 minutes by car from Traunkirchen.
