07.10.2025
from Marie Gröller

The Post am See in Traunkirchen has been named “Hotel of the Year 2026” by Gault&Millau – an honor that fills us with deep pride.

Honoured & grateful.

We were deeply touched by the appreciation shown to our family and our entire team by being named Gault&Millau Hotel of the Year 2026.
It makes us proud - and encourages us on our journey to rethink the hotel industry.

"Our aim was to lead the Post into a new era and give the hotel an international character - with a surprise effect that you wouldn't expect in the Salzkammergut."
- Monika Gröller

This award is a milestone - and it belongs to all those who have travelled this path with us.

A massive thank you goes to our great team, who live the vision with us every day with enthusiasm, commitment and passion.
We would also like to thank Gault&Millau for this honourable recognition, our guests for their trust and our partners who have accompanied us on this journey.

This award sends a strong signal:
for the hotel industry, for future generations and - in essence - also for us as the Gröller family, as visionaries and hosts with heart.

Hotel of the year 2026 - the Post am See.

"Traunkirchen is one of the most beautiful places in the Salzkammergut: the village is picturesquely situated at the foot of the Traunstein, directly on the lake. The house, whose roots go back to the 14th century, was brought into the present by the Gröller family in just seven months of construction. To be precise: Not just into the present, but rather a solid foundation stone was laid for a future that will last for generations. The result combines history with modern design and sustainable technology - and shows that a hotel can be more than just accommodation: a lifestyle that is about far more than just staying overnight.

Around 18 million euros were invested in the renovation. A third of this sum was invested in sustainability and the infrastructure for employees - from social spaces to efficient logistics solutions. The centrepiece of the ecological reorientation is a seawater heat pump that heats and cools the building in an environmentally friendly way. This commitment was honoured with the Austrian Ecolabel.

The Posthotel now offers 62 rooms and suites, including 21 new buildings with spacious balconies and views of the lake and mountains. The interior emphasises clear lines, warm materials and an understated elegance that creates a sense of calm and openness. One highlight is the Rooftop BergSPA: a 350 m² wellness area with an infinity pool, Finnish sauna, steam bath, ice grotto and adults-only zone - always accompanied by the panorama of Lake Traun. The offer is complemented by beauty treatments, DaySPA packages and retreats that invite you to relax." (Gault&Millau 2025)
